INTRUCTIONS AND ADVICE FOR DRIVERS
Before Driving
1. Make sure that where applicable your Insurance is in order; always carry your driving license and your Car Registration.
2. The Condition of your Vehicle is such that no danger is likely to be caused to yourself or others.
3. Your brakes and steering are in good order and properly adjusted.
4. Your Tires are free from defects likely to cause damage to the road or danger to your self and others.
5. Your windscreen is clean and the windscreen wipers in working order.
6. Your Vehicle has a driving mirror which is so fitted that you can see traffic behind you.
7. Your Horn is working order.
8. Your Silencer is efficient
9. Your vehicle is not excessively noisy and that avoidable furnes and smoke are not emitted.
10. Your Vehicle has lights and reflectors which comply with the regulation.
When Driving.
1. You much be in such a position that you can exercise proper control over your vehicle and retain a full view of the road and traffic ahead.
2. Give clear signal of your intentions
3. Keep well to the right except when you wish to overtake or turn left.
4. Never drive at such a speed, that you cannot control the car.
5. At Night, drive well within the limit of your lights.
6. Observe traffic signs and signal and the direction of a Police office controlling traffic.
7. You Must Not:
(a) Drive recklessly or at speed or in a manner which is dangerous to the public.
(b) Drive without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other person using the road.
(c) Drive under influence of drink and drug.
8. Over overtake unless you know you can do so without danger to your self and others.
9. Road Junction:
(a) when approaching a road junction where there is “slow” sign, slow down and be prepared to stop if necessary.
(b) When there is a “Halt” sign, you must stop at a major road a head even there is no traffic on it.
(c) At Road junction look left, the right then left again; do not proceed until it is safe to do so.
(d) At Road junction give a way to the major road.
10. Turning Corner:
(a) If you intend to turn to the right, signal in the good time and keep well to your right, do not swing left then cut across to the right.
(b) If you intend to turn to the left, signal in the good time and keep up your position just left of the middle of the road.
(c) When turning from one road into another make the turn carefully and give consideration to pedestrians.
11. Stopping:
When you draw up, pull in close to the nearside.
12. Traffic Behind You
If you are a driver and you want to move off, or reverse, or open your door, look round and make sure that no one is about to overtake you and that there are no children or obstructions in the “blind area” near your front or back wheels.
13. Parking and Stopping
Do not Park your vehicle:
(a) In a main road if you can park in the car park, lay by or in a suitable side street.
(b) On any road carrying fast moving traffic.
(c) Opposite or nearly opposite a standing vehicle.
(d) Opposite a refuge, road repairs or other obstructions.
(e) Where there is a continuous yellow line at the kerb.
(f) Near a School entrance.
(g) Near a road junction or bend.
(h) Near the brow of Hill or hump back.
(i) Where it will obscure a traffic sign.
(j) Near the traffic lights.
